Service Before Self

Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and had compassion on them and healed their sick. **Matthew 14:13-14, ESV**

Service Before Self.

Service before self is a common value amongst Air Force Airmen. Matter of fact, it is a core value. Airmen are taught the value from day one in basic training and about taking care of their wingmen. Little do they know, that value has been around long before Air Force was established on September 18, 1947. Jesus taught us that value after John the Baptist died over 2000 years ago.

If my friend dies, I’m surely not thinking about helping someone else. If my friend dies, I’m certain I will be in pain so much so that I would probably want to hunker in my darkened room and just be in silence. Jesus did not go that route. He reminded us He did not come to be served, but to serve others. Matthew 20:28.

Jesus example should be our example. Even when it hurts. Even when we don’t feel like it. Even when we get nothing out of it. We should serve.
